City of Statesboro Face Mask Ordinance and Worship Services
Many thanks to our church’s leaders and volunteers for the job well done in helping those who are comfortable with attending in-person worship to be able to do so. We look forward to returning to a time when everyone will be comfortable once again.
This week, the City of Statesboro passed an Ordinance requiring masks/face coverings be worn in public places (read it here). In order to be in compliance with the Ordinance, those desiring to attend services and other activities on church grounds will be expected to wear a mask/face covering during times where appropriate social distancing cannot be reasonably assured, with exceptions listed in the City’s ordinance (Section 1d). For worship services this means while entering and exiting. Our social distancing in pews and the chairs already meets the City’s allowance for not being required to wear a mask/face covering while seated. We received great feedback from the medical doctors in our church, as we sought their input on masks and social distancing. Each one who responded encouraged the use of masks.
Per section 1(e)(1) we will be posting the following on all entrances to the church for persons entering for worship or the offices or classrooms:
OUT OF CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER, WE EXPECT EVERYONE TO WEAR A MASK/FACE COVERING UPON ENTERING THIS LOCATION UNLESS EXEMPTED BY CITY ORDINANCE.
THIS LOCATION DOES NOT CONSENT TO ENFORCEMENT OF ANY LOCAL FACE COVERING REQUIREMENTS UPON THIS PROPERTY.
OUR CHURCH LEADERS CHOOSE TO OPT OUT IN THE TRADITION OF SEPARATING CHURCH AND STATE.
Thank you for your partnership and prayers as we move forward.
In His Service,
Jim Campbell
